Editor: First let me thank you so much for running the letter regarding Lynndale Elementary!
Anytime it's "in the paper," it's exciting and real and important. The power of the press isn't dying, and the boost that some "ink" can give an endeavor like ours shows how much your work is valued by your audience.
We heard comments from all around the county after you ran our story, and I'm sure that contributed to our success.
The great news is that our Title I school community, with 43 percent of our families currently qualified for free and reduced lunch, exceeded all expectations and by the end of the school day on Friday collected $17,437.63!
We had been hoping for between $5000 and $7000, so to raise nearly triple left us nearly speechless! Community is such a powerful thing! Our families' pocketbooks may be hard hit by this economy, but it appears their hearts have only grown larger!
It was a wonderful day!
Thank you for your part in making it so successful, and for all you and your colleagues at the Beacon do to keep our community connected, informed and vital. Thank you!
