Editor: My wife and I live near City Park and enjoy our walks through Edmonds.
One walk we enjoy in particular takes us down Third Avenue, Dayton to the waterfront, along the waterfront and back.
Recently, we've noticed that the streets are becoming more and more unsightly as cigarette smokers simply drop their smoked cigarette butts on the ground.
Having had enough, on a recent Saturday's walk we took a plastic bag and picked up every butt we could find along the sidewalks. They were everywhere but seemed to be somewhat concentrated wherever a person might linger, such as bus stops, benches, intersections, and so on.
Final total on this relatively short walk? Two hundred and forty one (241) cigarette butts discarded onto our sidewalks.
Cigarette smokers often complain about being persecuted. But, how many times have you been behind a car at a stoplight when you see a still burning cigarette butt thrown out of a car window? As long as smokers treat the world as their ashtray they will get no sympathy from me.
Cigarette smokers, police your own and clean up your act. The rest of us shouldn't have to clean up after you!
