Let’s find a good Mayor

Editor:
I have a problem with the suggested city council-manager form of government, which seems to be in the process of being pushed down our throats.

As I understand the city council-manager form of the government, the city council directs the manager they select and hire to perform as they have decided.

The questions in my mind are; do we really want a manager who works for a city council, that has spent endless hours of discussion on nonsense such as whether or not cars should be allowed to idle while waiting for the ferry?

Whether cats should be put on leashes?

Should merchants be allowed to put customers' purchases in a thinner-than-tissue-paper plastic bag?

Whether we should spend $1.1 million of non-existent money on a property they didn't know what to do with?

It would seem to me that the apparent ineptitude of our city council answers the question about the form of government that is best for Edmonds.

Let's hope that we can retain our mayoral form of government and that we are fortunate enough to find someone for the job who can fill Gary Haakenson's shoes.
