Editor:
Grief and sadness immediately griped my soul when I heard the Mayor was resigning. He should have been able to finish out his term head held high for the remarkable job he has done.

A parade and 21 gun salute to follow.

In my opinion the Mayor found a socially acceptable way to get away from the new city council that question every move that the mayor or staff did in their everyday workload.

It's a sad day for Edmonds.

In my view, nobody on this council should replace him.

The council would be wise to move Stephen Clifton to the mayor position and wait for the next election, where the public can chose the best qualified candidate.

We should also be looking at a city manager form of governing.

We are unlikely to find anyone as qualified as Mayor Haakenson.

The only person who comes to my mind is David Earling, and I believe he is otherwise gainfully employed.

It's a sad day.

However I will always work for a sustainable, forward thinking Edmonds.
