In a recent "Guestview" Mayor Haakenson asserted "big cities have sports teams... that build public spirit and bring people together." So he decided that Edmonds needs a sports team.
Hizzoner decided to adopt the Washington Huskies Women's Softball Team and encouraged Edmonds residents to jump aboard the NCAA champions' bandwagon.
Is it impertinent to suggest that Edmonds already has a standard bearer?
We have a team, the Edmonds Community College Titans, who in recent years have won six Northwest AA Community College baseball titles under Coach of the Year Brad Ditter.
They have a stadium, on the college campus. Ticket prices are reasonable.
At last check the team and school list over 50 local sponsors.
The Titans open their 2010 season at home March 6 at 2 p.m., against Wenatchee Valley.
