Editor:
An article published in the February 11, edition of the “Edmonds Beacon” reported that City Council members Adrienne Monillas and Diane Buckshnis plan on holding monthly town meetings in a variety of venues throughout Edmonds.

This news is timely as the 17 member citizens Economic Development Commission, in their annual report, pointed out the need to “develop a vision for the City as a whole as well as its individual neighborhoods.”

Implicit in commissioners’ report is a recognition that the city’s boundaries extend beyond the downtown area and Edmonds bowl.

Rather than gathering information based on public comments at city council meetings, these council members plan on going out into the city’s neighborhoods.

This approach would undoubtedly engage more citizens in the visioning process. Currently a very small subset of Edmonds residents trek down to city council chambers, sit in the uncomfortable chairs and wait until 9 or 10 p.m. to cram our thoughts into three minutes of testimony before the council and the TV cameras.

I had the opportunity to doorbell for Mrs. Monillas in the Seaview neighborhood.

I discovered that neighborhood residents were appreciative that someone was willing to listen.

So, when Adrienne Monillas and Diane Buckshnis come to your neighborhood, please make every opportunity to attend the meeting. And don’t forget to bring your concerns, hopes, and dreams. You will be heard.
