My vote for No. 1

Once again I will nominate Rick Steves for Citizen of the Year.

Trees trimmed are very frustrating

My frustration about Edmonds tree chopping continues. Another event has caused me to write this letter.

Lots of good music across the ages

As a music lover raised in the Seattle area in a virtual hotbed of various styles and trends, Mr. Pierre wrote a very interesting article I believe that hits a "chord", pathetic term I know, with many.

Please turn out your lights

Global climate change poses a serious threat to our planet and the economic wellbeing of our world; every individual and business has a stake in our future and must do whatever possible to make a difference.

Go Titans!

Editor: In a recent "Guestview" Mayor Haakenson asserted "big cities have sports teams... that build public spirit and bring people together." So he decided that Edmonds needs a sports team.

No thanks for the gift

Editor: To the person who thought it appropriate to allow your dog to take a major “dump” on the steps down to my office last Saturday, a big “shame on you.”

SNO-KING Chorale Rant & Rave

My husband joined the Sno-King Community Chorale three years ago. He joined the choir both for the joy of singing as well as desiring to be part of a group that gives back to the community.

FAA bias exposed – now what?

Editor: Now that Save Our Communities (SOC) has uncovered damaging e-mail and phone conversations showing at least one local FAA official biased in favor of Paine Field expansion, will we see County Executive Reardon and Snohomish County Council members rethink their decision to build a terminal at Paine Field?

Neighborhood meetings a great idea

An article published in the February 11, edition of the “Edmonds Beacon” reported that City Council members Adrienne Monillas and Diane Buckshnis plan on holding monthly town meetings in a variety of venues throughout Edmonds.

Good deeds help us all

Yesterday was a spectacular day for me.  Not only was the weather superb, but as I was walking along Sunset Drive to get some much needed exercise, I came upon a lady who was picking up litter from the surrounding area.

Why aren’t Boeing impacts assessed?

Today the Boeing Company’s new extended version of the 747 plane departed from Paine Field after waiting two hours for the weather to improve. Due to the redesign of the aircraft, the FAA considers it an experimental plane.

Rotary supports ECA

For more than 37 years the Rotary Club of Edmonds has supported scholarships for our area. This year we are doing something different.

The pain of Paine Field expansion

Would you like your house adjacent to Hyw. I-5? How about a several miles wide I-5 built over all of our homes?

'Engelsgate'

Don Hall blew the whistle on the City Council's cabal at Engel's Pub recently but his courageous act underscores an even more serious problem facing Edmonds: our need for an Official Edmonds Town Tattletale.

Levy affects more than schools

Thank you so much for your clear and informative article, "School replacement levy deemed 'important'", printed on January 28.

Vote Yes on school levy

On February 9, voters in the Edmonds School District will make an important decision that will affect our quality of life and the health of our economy.

Stand down and lighten up

Editor: With all due respect to Washington State Law, I believe that Mr. Hall needs to stand down and lighten up!

Support Our future in education

It is important that you vote for the future of our children. Voting “Yes” on the upcoming Edmonds School District Levy keeps in place smaller class sizes, paraeducators, services for special needs students and support staff.

Yes, we can

After watching President Barak Obama deliver his state of the union address, I turned the dial to Channel 21 to watch the telecast of the January 26 City Council meeting.

Now it’s payback time

The current School Programs and Operations Levy, that was passed by the voters in 2006, authorized a levy to be collected for the four years ending in 2010.
