The other story

As I sat in the sunshine down at the harbor watching the people, the boats, and of course the baby blue heron, what I realized was that while we of course gravitate very quickly to report the controversy and politics surrounding those birds, there is a second story that is more subtle but to me more powerful.

‘Why’ a city manager in Edmonds?

Quick on the heels of the Skipper’s property debacle, the Council again tests our patience. This time, a movement comes to change our form of governing; not a small consideration.

Shades of Skippers??

When learning about the proposal being considered by the Edmonds city council to change our governance structure from mayor to city manager, my immediate thoughts went to the recent council discussions on the Skippers property.

The Edmonds Angels

On June 20, while driving and ferrying from Sequim to Everett to attend our grandson’s family high school graduation party, we had a tire blow out shortly after disembarking the ferry in Edmonds.

Citizens need to rise up

My wife and I were in, shall we say a state of nirvana when we read your extremely well composed and most salient lead article in that latest Beacon.

Sent 3-15-2010 to Mayor and city council

As a concerned citizen who helped save Yost Pool (2009) I would like you to review your thinking on the future of Yost.

Another tree, another treasure lost

Edmonds has lost another healthy, strong, majestic, old growth evergreen tree on Walnut St. and 4th Ave. S., the construction location of another new condo.

Edmonds Library rocks!

My summer has started off with a bang equal to our 4th of July fireworks! I entered Sno-Isle's Adult Reading Contest and won.

Fundraiser passes all expectations

First let me thank you so much for running the letter regarding Lynndale Elementary! Anytime it's "in the paper," it's exciting and real and important. The power of the press isn't dying, and the boost that some "ink" can give an endeavor like ours shows how much your work is valued by your audience.

Great cut, great price

I'd like to give a shout out to Lorrie's Salon, which has recently opened on Olympic View Drive next to Portofino Pizza in Edmonds.

Cigarette butts drive me nuts

My wife and I live near City Park and enjoy our walks through Edmonds.  One walk we enjoy in particular takes us down Third Avenue, Dayton to the waterfront, along the waterfront and back.

Save our historic fire engine

The city of Edmonds is about to give away a prized possession – a possession that was given to it back in 2004 and cannot ever be replaced.

Thanks to all

We would like to thank all those who suported the Edmonds Food Bank Vintage Car Show and Food Drive on Saturday, June 12, at the Edmonds United Methodist Church, where the food bank is located.

Thanks for Rita

I have been reading the Beacon for many years and always make a point of reading Rita Bennett's Worship Column.

Let’s find a good Mayor

I have a problem with the suggested city council-manager form of government, which seems to be in the process of being pushed down our throats.

That’s a great idea

Re: My Vision of Edmonds June 10, 2010. Thank you Barbara Tipton for your beautiful and cogent description of your vision of Edmonds. I love it all.

Are District 15 High Schools safe?

The answer is not anymore. Starting in 2011, our four local high schools will no longer have the security of an on- campus police officer.

More kudos to Haakenson

Grief and sadness immediately griped my soul when I heard the Mayor was resigning. He should have been able to finish out his term head held high for the remarkable job he has done.

Right time for change

Recently I had come out in support of a council-manager form of government for Edmonds. I was willing to put off Council consideration of council-manager form of government because of the need for stability for rest of the year. That premise has been blown out of the water by the mayor's action.

Thank You, Mayor Haakenson

I may be only one voice but I firmly believe that I represent the feelings of many of your fellow residents of Edmonds when I say that your prior years of service to our community will be sorely missed.
