My
young friend Carson, who just turned two in November, is getting to be quite a
golf aficionado. But let me tell
you about it.
Seems
that all summer he has been hanging with his grandpa Jurgen, at the Everett
Golf and Country Club.
And
lately, has even been trying out the practice putting green, to the amusement
of golfers and Club staff, alike.
Anyhow,
comes Christmas season, and the obligatory visit to Santa Claus, this year
handled by proud grandparents.
So
he gets settled on the fat man’s lap, and when asked what he wanted for
Christmas, replied “An iron”. Well
this one stumped Mr. Claus and when he repeated the question, Carson replied,
even louder, and with more vehemence, “AN IRON” while giving Santa a look which
clearly said, “What’s with ya’? Ya’ deaf or somethin’.”
Well
about this time, the cameraman, who must have been a golfer, figured it out,
and started laughing so hard he couldn’t focus the camera, but Santa was still at
sea. What would a two-year-old kid want with a clothes iron, or a chunk of iron
pipe, he wondered? Anyhow, Grandpa finally had to explain it, and Santa’s
cheeks got even redder than usual.
Anyhow,
the North Pole workshop must have got the message, ‘cause on Christmas morning,
there under the tree was not only a real pitching wedge, kids size of course,
but as an added bonus, a matching putter.
Now
parents and grandparents both have visions of Carson becoming the next Tiger
Woods, less the extramarital adventures, one would hope. But what I am waiting
to see is the look on the Pro’s face, when Carson strolls into the Country Club
pro shop to book himself a tee time.
